Randy Owen, of the group Alabama, has a new CD and the first single is Braid My Hair. It’s about a girl with cancer and how she wishes she had hair to braid. It made me want to give Torrie a copy, and this letter.
Torrie,
I wanted to write you this letter to let you know how proud of you I am. I’m proud of all the good decisions you’ve made as you are growing up and I’m proud of you for trying new things and not giving up when they are hard. I’m proud of you for achieving good things at school and at church.
I’m also very proud of the decision you made a while back to donate your hair to Locks of Love. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision to make. I know how important outward appearances are to teenagers and how drastic of a change it was. I’m proud of you for realizing that none of that mattered.
I’m not sure if you know how big of a decision that was, or how much of an impact that had. I’m not sure I realized it, either, until I heard this song. I wanted you to hear it, too, and to know that you helped to change the life of a little girl somewhere that you’ll never meet. You gave the gift of hope, which is probably the best gift you could ever give anyone.
I’m proud of you, and I love you!
Love,
