The year was 1983.

I was 10 or 11, depending on the time of the year.

I lived with my dad, but was visiting my mom in Ogden, UT.

I don’t recall the occasion, but she dropped me off at the theater to see a movie. Alone. At night.

I’ll never forget the movie. It was Return of the Jedi. And I loved it!!

I remember one of the workers gave me a booklet of sorts all about the movie. FREE, no less!

I saw an article in the SL Tib ( http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/50483436-76/tullis-cinedome-riverdale-nelson.html.csp ) today saying that the theater was torn down. What a loss. Old theaters like that are a treasure, soon to be gone.

I still miss Cooper 7 in Littleton, CO and the Glenwood in Overland Park, KS. Those theaters hold great memories for me.

I remember going to the movies with Bobby & Brad at Cooper 7. Don’t recall what we saw, but while we were waiting for our ride, there were some punks in the parking lot down the hill. Bobby yelled “Hey you punkers!” and made some obscene gesture at them. They ran over, we ran inside. They glared at us for quite a while through the window, but nothing else happened. We were scared to death!

Glenwood is where I saw Star Wars again with my father, though this time as an adult during the re-release. We’d seen it 7 or 8 times in 1977 when I was 4 or 5. Still my favorite movie.

Man, I hate multiplexes!
